MURRAY SECOND OVERALL AT THE PERTH SUPERSPRINT

Cooper Murray has finished second in the Super2 round at the Perth SuperSprint with a Pole Position and Podium.

The 22-year old finished P4 & P5 in the Super2 Practice Sessions on Friday at Wannerro Raceway.

Murray headed out for his second run with a probable brake fire in the right-front corner of his #88 ZB Commodore but still set a 0:55.0608s to move up to second place and next time by, he was quickest of all with a 0:54.7855s claiming Pole for Race 1 in Perth.

In Saturday Afternoon’s Race, Murray was beaten off the line and dropped into P2, where he would remain for the relatively un-eventful race.

The second place podium marked Murray’s first points of the 2024 Season after a difficult Bathurst 500 season opener.

On Sunday, Murray was the leader of the Eggleston Motorsport Team in a tough qualifying session where he finished P7.

Murray made his way up into P6 in the race before a red flag suspended the race for a lengthy period due to a car fire.

Following the race restart with four minutes on the time certain race clock, Murray made a move for P5 on McLeod who moved right on the hill descent and as a result, car contact flipped McLeod on the grass.

Race control called the Red Flag ending the time certain race and reclassified Murray in P6.

Motorsport Australia Stewards convened a hearing following the Super2 race regarding the contact, but was only part heard and adjourned.

The Race 2 results meant that Murray finished second overall for the weekend.

"It’s unfortunate, you never want to see a car that wrecked. Coming out of turn six I had overlap on Cameron, so going down the straight he started to squeeze me more and more to the right side of the track while I had the overlap. Then it got to a certain point where I couldn’t turn any more right and he kept turning. I’m a racer at heart, I’m not going to back out, and if I turn him then that’s what happens. I’m glad to see he’s ok after the big crash. We had really good car speed just couldn’t do much with it today, thank you to Flair Dancewear and the Eggleston Motorsport Team for a great weekend.”
