MURRAY’S SATURDAY SPEED A HIGHLIGHT IN TOWNSVILLE

Cooper Murray’s qualifying speed was a highlight as his bad luck continued in the Super2 Series at the Townsville 500, attracting race-ending damage in Race 1.

After a duo of strong practice sessions, Murray again showed off his renowned qualifying speed and put the #88 Suncity PowerSports Commodore on the front row for Saturday’s Race.

Unfortunately on the opening lap after starting P2, Murray’s bad luck continued when he was caught up in an on-track incident and did not finish the race.

On Sunday, Murray’s nightmare start looked set to continue as he came to pit lane straight from his out lap reporting a long brake pedal.

The Eggleston crew got a chance to check the car under red flag conditions and the extra minutes would be a blessing, as the issue was remedied and he was able to do his green tyre run and finish P7 in a difficult session.

Murray struggled against his #88 Commodore throughout the race but was able to hang on to his position and cross the line in P7.

“It was really unfortunate to be caught up in the incident on Saturday and not be able to maximise our front row start, but a big thanks to the crew for working hard during the night to get the #88 fixed for Sunday. Unfortunately brake drama in Quali made it a difficult session, but maximised what we had available and in the race I was just doing the best I could with what I had at hand.”

Murray will have double duties for his next race at the Sandown 500 as he competes in both the Super2 Series & Supercars with Craig Lowndes.
