FIRST SOLO TOP TEN FINISH FOR MURRAY AT AUSGP
Cooper Murray has claimed his first solo top ten in his second full-time round as a Supercars Driver with Erebus Motorsport.
The AusGP weekend began with multiple practice sessions on Thursday where Murray was in the ten for most of the day in the refreshed Young Timers Garage backed #99.
Following the back-to-back qualifying sessions, Murray rolled off from P11 in Thursday afternoons race and was fighting through the mid-pack but was spun on the second-last lap of the race and dropped to P21 where he’d eventually finish.
Back on track for Friday, Murray produced a great drive in the shortened racing holding off an experienced Chaz Mostert for P9 after starting P14, marking his first solo supercars top ten in just his second full-time round.
On Saturday Murray improved again in Qualifying, finishing P5 & P3 in the two short sessions, a career best in the later.
In the Race, Murray started from the third row but picked up early damage, and was letting cars past him, but was sent off-track into the gravel and ended up with a DNF result.
Murray starred when he qualified 3rd for Sunday’s race, but after a wet weather downpour in the morning and two laps under Safety Car, Race Control declared that Race 7 would not be resumed and no points will be awarded.
“No racing on Sunday was disappointing, it was such a shame to not be able to capitalise on our P3 starting position. Thanks to all the fans and supporters across the weekend. Bring on New Zealand!”
Round 3 of the Supercars Championship will be held on April 11-13 at the Taupo Super 440.
