QUALIFYING SPEED A HIGHLIGHT IN TAUPO

Cooper Murray has faced a difficult weekend in Taupō for Round 3 of the Supercars Championship.

After two practice sessions on Friday, the Supercars field had a quick back to back qualifying sessions on Saturday morning where Murray locked in P10 & P15 starts for the day’s races.

For the first race on Saturday, Murray ran into bad luck again when he was sent off the track on the opening lap and finished Race 8 in P23, unable to recover from being sent so far down the order off the start.

Race 9 was a difficult one on the new & untested SuperSoft tyre for the Erebus Motorsport team, Murray struggled from the outset without car speed and again finished P23.

For Qualifying in Sunday’s Race 10, Murray only just missed out in a spot in the Shootout and began from P12.

From the outset, the #99 had a great first stint and was running outside the ten, but issues in the pit stops and on track battles, one of which Murray was in the middle of a three wide collision and picked up a controversial penalty for, sent him to the back of the field and he finished P22.

“Overall a very difficult and character building weekend, showed some potential but nothing really went our way. A few things our on track and in pit lane but we improved our car on Sunday which was good progress. Lots of work to do of us before the next time we race on the SuperSoft, but for now head back to the workshop, regroup and get ready for Tassie!”

Round 4 of the Supercars Championship will be held on May 9-11 at the Tasmania Super 440.
